LunarPages Review Round-Up – Are Customers Over the Moon?

LunarPages didn’t do so well with customer feedback, with LunarPages review content including comments from some pretty angry people who have used their services and been less than delighted.  While users generally seem pleased with the fast reliable services and technology, the authors of the bad reviews are fairly unanimous in claiming tech support and customer support are poor, that telephones are not answered quickly, techies don’t know their stuff and servers were down for long periods.  They claim the company was reliable until just recently, when standards took a sudden downturn.  Email  and dedicated and VPS phone support is 24/7/365, but telephone support is only 12 hours a day in the week, and only eight and a half hours at weekends.

With 1030 hate pages per 1,330,000 website mentions, LunarPages is obviously not pleasing everyone, though they themselves say their reliability is high, pointing out that during the 2005 Los Angeles blackout, they stayed online using the gas-fired generators they have installed for just such a city-wide emergency.

Check Web Hosting Reviews Before Buying

Each web hosting service should be assessed by the web hosting reviews to give you a fair comparison of all the sites being reviewed. This should include the support you are given, the bandwidth available, the cost per month, and testimonials from users of each site featured in the review.

The uptime and reliability of each site has to be tested by the reviewer. Most users will at some point have a technical question to ask, and the support and knowledge of each site’s technical staff should be covered in the review. The review should have some kind of easy to understand points system, making it simple and easy for you to understand the information you are being shown, and make a balanced judgement from all the points raised by the review of the web hosting services.

The research carried out by the review sites has to be in-depth to cover sufficient aspects of  each particular web hosting site, and use comparisons to highlight any advantages of a provider of web hosting services.

DreamHost Review: Money’s worth or Waste of Money?

DreamHost is an expensive provider, with hosting from $8.95 a month, and the biggest, juiciest carrot is their unprecedented 100% uptime promise.  Wait, but it gets better.  A DreamHost review says if your site is down for one hour, they will credit you with one day’s free hosting for each hour, or fraction of an hour, of downtime on your next invoice, starting from receipt of your ticket.  They also give a long 97-day money back guarantee if you aren’t satisfied with the service, and a $97 (seems to be their favorite number) reward for introducing a friend.  There are also Google AdWords credits.

So it is strange that a company prepared to offer pledges like these doesn’t even give users the option of telephone tech support – support is by email, chat and ticket only.  And they don’t support Windows hosting.  Perhaps this is why DreamHost don’t appear on any of those “top ten hosting providers” lists.

Perhaps competing too fiercely in the host-eat-host real world is a bit too much for this homey bunch.
